Senior Supplemental Nutrition Program

In 2014, Fauquier FISH began a collaboration with the Warrenton Community Center (WCC) to provide assistance to seniors facing food insecurity. Through this partnership, FISH delivered senior-friendly groceries to clients at the WCC on a monthly basis. This program continued for 9 years and was successful at addressing the needs of a select few. However, FISH knew more could be done to help vulnerable seniors in our community.

During the summer of 2021, Fauquier FISH cultivated a partnership with Aging Together and the Department of Social Services (DSS) to begin the Senior Supplemental Nutrition Program (SSNP) – an outreach effort to create greater food-security among vulnerable seniors in Fauquier County. This program absorbed clients from the WCC program as well as adding many more, based on referrals from DSS.

Each month FISH volunteers pack a week’s worth of food and deliver the food to the homes of program participants. Food selections include breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks – including recipes, perishables, non-perishables, and low-sodium/heart healthy offerings. This program runs year round with delivery once a month on the 1st Monday. As of February 2023, this program is serving 45 clients per month.
